Located just south of Rosebud, MO, Earth’s Classroom was founded in September 1999 by Bill and Jody Miles, whose passion for conservation and education brought their vision to life. With boundless energy and an unwavering passion for nature, they’ve transformed a 179-acre property into a living, breathing “blackboard” for hands-on learning.

In partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation and Shaw Nature Reserve, Earth’s Classroom has become a model for Missouri’s diverse ecosystems. What was once barren pastureland is now home to a thriving 15-acre prairie with over 50 native plant species. Through ongoing efforts, invasive species have been removed, and a controlled burn plan has revitalized the open woodlands, helping native flora and fauna flourish. Our Living History areas bring the past to life, interpreting the Civil War, the Southern Fur Trade, and the Native American cultures of Missouri. Recent improvements, including an upgraded pavilion and outdoor amphitheater—thanks to dedicated Eagle Scout projects—continue to enhance the quality of our space.

Earth’s Classroom is the culmination of Bill and Jody Miles' shared dream and their vast experience in conservation and education. Together, they've worked in places like the Superior National Forest in Minnesota, state parks across Missouri, Arkansas, and Minnesota, and environmental education centers such as the Audubon Center of the Northwoods, Dodge Nature Center, and Lions Den Outdoor Learning Center. These rich experiences have given them unique opportunities, from participating in wolf and tarantula research to engaging in large-scale native plant restoration and ecological burns. Their knowledge and firsthand experiences fuel their ability to share the intricate web of life they've encountered along the way.
